Physical Activity Benefits the Brain

15 Aug 2025 20 Share
It is well known that regular physical exercise enhances brain health and lowers the risk of cognitive decline. Recent research expands on this by revealing that even less intense physical activities can have a similar beneficial effect on your brain. The study found that people who participated in everyday movement showed improvement in cognitive processing speed. This was true regardless of whether the activity was lower intensity, like taking a mid-day walk, or more strenuous like doing household chores. It also appears that doing these activities regularly amplifies the benefits even more. While high intensity exercise has even greater benefits, this study showed that all movement is important, and the accumulation of physical activity has a direct impact on cognitive health. In sum, “You don’t have to go to the gym to experience some of the benefits of physical activity.”
