Ibiza’s Farmers Celebrate the Rains

15 Dec 2025 64 Share
The torrential rains of early October gave local farmers quite a scare, as many of them were afraid of losing some of their crops to storm damage. However, those fears quickly changed into gratitude for the rainfall. It turned out that the damage to crops was minimal, whilst the abundance of water was very welcomed. Most of the farms had only minimal damage, and even those that were more affected by the storms were quickly returned to normal operation without any major losses. The president of the Agroeivissa cooperative, Iván Colomar said, “We are truly grateful for this much-needed rain which has been very good for the fields. It doesn't completely solve the drought problem, but it gives us a break.” The very dry conditions of this past summer have drastically lowered the island’s water reserves. Colomar says that the effects of this drought may still hurt the crops that are planted for next year. “Even though it has rained a lot now, that doesn't mean we will have enough water for next year. It's a good start for the fall season, but this trend must continue if we are to recover the underground aquifer water levels which are very low.”
