The World’s Tallest Bridge

15 Aug 2025 17 Share
The province of Guizhou in the southwest of China is an extremely mountainous area where the government has built numerous giant bridges to connect the population. This amazing task includes half of the world’s 100 highest bridges, and a stunning new bridge is the tallest one in the world. Spanning the Huajiang Grand Canyon, the bridge bearing the same name will tower 625 meters above the level of the river below. This is about 300 meters higher than the Milau Viaduct in France, which is the highest bridge in Europe. The total length of the new bridge is 2,980 meters, and it cuts travel time across the canyon from 70 minutes to just two minutes. The structure is supported by 93 massive steel trusses that needed to be lowered into the distant river bed. This was done by a giant automated cable car that used GPS guidance and 3D scanning technology to accurately place each truss. It is planned that a section of the bridge’s main span will eventually have a 500 meter long enclosed pedestrian walkway complete with a restaurant and… a bungee jump!
