Santa Eulalia Regulates Swimming Pools

Preserving and sustaining the water supply on Ibiza has become a major concern that the regional and local governments are addressing. The town of Santa Eulalia has recently enacted new rules to enforce sensible water use in all newly built swimming pools. Their aim is to have greater control over consumption of water, with more efficient ways of enforcement when there are abuses. Each pool must have its own water supply with a meter that monitors its usage so that excessive consumption can be stopped. Surplus water recovery systems are mandatory, as are reduced flow rate devices. In addition, swimming pools will now count as part of the allowed square meters on a plot of land. This means that developers who choose to have a larger pool will have to build a smaller home. There are also new limitations on how many pools can be included in new residential developments.
