Resident travel discounts increased

Due to a recent agreement with the central government, residents of the Balearic islands now enjoy an increase in their travel discounts for both air and boat transport. The discount on inter-island flights was raised from 50% to 75%, and on inter-island ferries from 25% to 50%. Local merchants will also benefit, as the discount for transporting their products to the islands has been increased to 30%.

The larger discounts were announced by the Prime Minister’s office after months of negotiations with the Balearic government. It had been felt that the central government - controlled by the Popular Party (PP) - did not want to grant this advantage to the Balearic President Francina Armengol who is of the rival Socialist Party (PSOE). But finally they were able to put politics aside and come to an agreement that is of great benefit to those of us who live here.
