The European Parliament has passed a law to restore degraded natural areas in the EU. “The Nature Restoration Law is an essential piece of the European Green Deal to restore Europe’s ecosystems. “Farmers and fishermen will benefit from this, as it ensures a habitable earth for future generations,” said MEP César Luena of Spain. Before the law can proceed further, each EU country must specify the areas in need of restoration, and the goals for each habitat. In addition, the European Commission must provide data on the conditions needed for long-term food security.
