Laser Weed Killer

15 Apr 2025 15 Share
Carbon Robotics (US) has created a system called “LaserWeeder” that kills 100,000 weeds per hour without harming the soil. It uses thermal energy lasers to eradicate weeds, rather than chemical or physical interventions. Getting rid of the weeds without disturbing the soil has several benefits: reduced farming cost, no poisonous chemicals on the crops, and food that is healthier. The LaserWeeder is easy to use as it attaches to the back of tractors so it can be easily pulled through the rows of plants. The company worked closely on the design with leading vegetable growers so that it integrates effortlessly with all existing farming infrastructure. The LaserWeeder features 30 industrial CO2 lasers with a weeding capacity that covers over 8,000 m2 per hour. It uses artificial intelligence technology to instantly identify, target, and eliminate weeds while continuing to move. Its patented lighting system allows the LaserWeeder to operate day or night in virtually all weather conditions with complete accuracy. “We’ve proven the effectiveness of our laser weeding technology, and the immense benefits it offers farmers, including healthier crops and soil, decreased herbicide use, and reduced chemical and labour costs,” said the CEO of Carbon Robotics.
