The Portuguese island of Madeira is looking to capitalize on the increasing number of a unique type of traveller: the digital nomads. These are the ones being targeted by Madeira where they have created an entire area dedicated to attracting them. This ‘Digital Nomad Village’ offers affordable housing, fast internet and free office space.

The digital nomad lifestyle became popular in recent years as internet connectivity expanded and jobs became less location-dependent. The Covid restrictions made even more people aware of the possibility of working away from an office.
