Ibiza Summer Car Control

15 Aug 2025 14 Share
A new vehicle control regulation came into effect from June until 30 September of this year. There are now quotas and controls on all rental cars and caravans entering the island. President of the Ibiza Consell Vincent Mari stated that the law responds to an "increasingly evident" social demand in the face of the growing vehicle saturation on the island. “We cannot allow vehicles to continue arriving unchecked. This regulation is important to ensure Ibiza's sustainability, and for making coexistence compatible between residents and tourists." One of the key aspects of the ordinance is the establishment of limits on the number of rental vehicles that can operate during the high season. The companies in that sector had requested to operate nearly 28,000 vehicles this summer, but the quota was ultimately set at 16,000. “The car rental sector will have to adapt, because it is clear that without this control, the pressure on the territory would have been unsustainable." The shipping sector also expressed their objections to this new ordinance, especially the implementation of a vehicle entry fee. But the president reiterated his firm position that, “Ibiza had reached a saturation point and it was essential to regulate vehicle access. We want to ensure that living and enjoying Ibiza is compatible, both for residents and those who visit us."
