Free public transport in Luxembourg

Luxembourg is set to become the first country in the world to make 100% of its public transport free by abolishing fares on trains, trams and buses. Luxembourg City suffers from some of the worst traffic congestion in the world. The country as a whole has only 600,000 inhabitants, but nearly 200,000 people from France, Belgium and Germany cross the border every day to work there. This small nation already has a progressive attitude towards transportation which includes free passes for young people under the age of 20 and free shuttles for secondary school students. This new initiative is the next step. The newly re-elected government is also considering another progressive policy: the full legalization of cannabis.
