After it folded up its wings, the exotic-looking sports car drove off down the highway. To receive the certificate they did this 200 more times, totalling over 100 hours of flight time, thus proving to the aviation authorities that it was reliable and safe.
The AirCar has a top speed of 160 kph, and it flies at an altitude of 2,500 metres. It is quite efficient, as it takes only two minutes to spread its wings and transform from a car into an aircraft. Its creator Stefan Klein explains that his flying car is designed to fly between airports or other formal landing areas. Once on the ground it becomes a car and the driver/pilot takes to the road to complete the journey. He goes on to say, “AirCar’s certification opens the door for flying cars to change mid-distance travel forever.”
