Caption Glasses

15 Aug 2025 30 Share
People who are fully or partially deaf may soon be able to understand and “hear” what a speaker is saying thanks to a new invention. It is called AirCaps glasses, and it solves this problem by creating real-time captions of what the speaker is saying. These smart glasses resemble traditional thick-framed eyeglasses, and they connect via Bluetooth to an app on the user’s phone. When the microphone on the phone captures the voice of a selected individual nearby, an AI-driven speech-to-text algorithm transforms their words into text. The text is then sent back to the glasses and displayed on the interior of the lenses for the wearer to read. The text also appears on the phone’s screen as a backup, ensuring that communication remains smooth and accessible in any environment. The software and app are specially designed so that the connection is seamless and the captions appear in real time. According to the company, the app currently recognizes multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, Chinese, German, and Portuguese. Users can also manually add technical terms, slang, or any other words that the app’s vocabulary does not currently include.
