Amazing underground refrigerator

An ingenious idea called the Ground Fridge eliminates the need for electricity to keep products cool by using the insulating and cooling effects of being in the ground. This is how it works: The spherical Ground Fridge is buried in the earth and covered with a layer of soil that is about one metre thick. This natural insulation keeps the temperature inside the fridge very stable throughout the year at between 10 and 12°C. This is ideal for the storage of fruits, vegetables, wine and cheese. It has a capacity of 3,000 litres, which means it can hold about 500 kg of fresh food. This is the equivalent of what would be the complete harvest of a 250 m2 garden. It’s designer describes it as “an innovative modern version of the traditional root cellar”.
