In the spring of 2022, the city of Ibiza will open an urban garden at the Can Tomeu finca in the area of Can Escandell. This ecological and sustainable project will have 47 cultivation plots that will be distributed among 50 or 60 individuals or associations. All food produced will be for consumption by the growers and their families. There will also be areas for recycling and composting. "We have been working on this initiative for a long time and, finally it is becoming a reality," said the mayor of Ibiza, Rafa Ruiz. It has a total area of 4,000 square meters, of which 600 will be used for educational training dedicated to the promotion of environmental and sustainable agriculture. One of the objectives of this urban garden, according to the Councillor for the Environment, is integration of the community. “People of all ages are welcome to participate in this project. We want it to be an intergenerational activity that brings together all the citizens of Ibiza who are interested in promoting healthy crops.”
