Ibiza Optimista

There is a new all-electric ferry running between Ibiza and Formentera. The ‘Cap de Barbaria’ is 82 meters long and 15.5 meters wide, with a maximum speed of 26 kmh (14 knots). It is high tech with an intelligent management system that optimizes the ship’s power use for peak efficiency. The batteries are strong enough to operate the ship for over 12 hours without recharging. It can transport up to 14 trucks, and is “double-ended” so that it can load or unload from either the bow or stern. The ship has been specifically designed to ensure operation in all weather conditions, so that delivery of essential products to Formentera will be secure.

The ‘Cap de Barbaria’ has a capacity of 390 passengers. The main passenger deck is of course indoors, but it also has some shaded outdoor seating. There is even an elevator going down to the garage for extra passenger comfort. The upper deck features a chill out area with a large bar in the centre. It has designer sofas and hammocks, plus awnings for protection from the sun. DJ music and cocktail service are planned in this space on special days.
