The Balearic Islands have taken another step towards becoming a more sustainable destination with a new certification system called “Plastic Free Balearics”. Businesses in the hospitality industry can become Plastic Free Guardians with ratings from one to five stars. The number of stars depends on the percentage of highly polluting ‘red flag’ plastic items that they have stopped using. This program has been developed by the Ibiza Preservation Fund and Mallorca’s Save The Med Foundation, along with other environmental organizations.
