Jazz Point Ibiza is once again bringing some of the biggest names on the international jazz scene to perform here in Ibiza. This is the sixth annual Jazz Point Festival, and it will run for four nights from 16 to 19 of October. David Moss and Adam Lenox of the Ibiza Music Agency work together with Joel Chriss Productions in New York to create these special events that are dedicated to making our island an important part of the international jazz scene. Jazz Point is a product of mutual friendships that span two continents. Adam and David are close friends, and their Ibiza Music Agency has been supplying and promoting live music to private, corporate and hotel clients in Ibiza for over 12 years. Joel owns one of New York City’s top jazz agencies, and he has been David’s friend since the days when they grew up together in New York.

The Festival begins on Thursday 16/10 with three exciting events. At 17:00 the Opening Party Jam Session will be hosted by the WOM Radio Café on the seafront in Santa Eulalia. The multifaceted Andrés Coll on his marimba will direct the Jazz Jam joined by Israeli-Australian jazz pianist Tal Cohen on keyboard and master Doug Weiss on upright bass, with special appearances of the dynamic American trumpeter Omar Kabir, renown Eric Person on alto saxophone and tenor saxophone living legend Ricky Ford.

At 19:30 the celebration moves to the roof terrace of The Standard Hotel in Ibiza Town on the Vara de Rey. World renowned singer-songwriter La José will display her fearless voice blending flamenco, jazz, soul, Iberian traditions, and influences from the middle East and North Africa. She will perform with Luis Gallo on Spanish guitar. But the opening night party doesn’t end there. From 21:30 onwards it continues into the night just down the stairs at The Standard’s Jara Restaurant. Many of the festival’s stars will be playing through midnight at this “Jazz Point Jam”.

On the following night (Friday 17/10) at 20:30, the beat goes on in Ibiza Town at Teatro Ibiza - the island’s iconic home to live music. Spiritual Jazz Master and Saxophone player Muriel Grossmann and her stellar quartet will have you swaying in your seat as they play an eclectic selection of Muriel’s beautiful compositions. The group includes the deep and elegant Radomir Milojkovic on guitar, groove master Abel Boquera on Hammond B3 organ, and the energetic Uros Stamenkovic on drums. They will be joined by the Big Band Ciutat d’Eivissa (BBCE) for a powerful second set, playing arrangements of Muriel’s compositions by the great director and trombone player Vicente Tur. Special guests are Andrés Coll on marimba and Omar Kabir on trumpet.

On Saturday 18/10 Jazz Point returns to Teatro Ibiza at 21:00 for the “New York City/Ibiza Jazz Explosion”. The legendary Ricky Ford and the creative Eric Person on saxophone, team up with the exceptional Omar Kabir (trumpet), the fearlessly fresh Tal Cohen (keyboard), indispensable Doug Weiss (bass), and the brilliant rhythmic storyteller Marc Miralta (drums). They will dazzle you with the music of the greatest jazz composers of all time: Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk and more.  

On Sunday 19/10 at 19:30, the Festival will close with a special concert at the ME Hotel on the waterfront near Santa Eulalia. “La José & Friends” will feature an encore performance by that famous singer backed up by Tal Cohen (keyboard), Doug Weiss (bass), and Eric Person (sax), plus special guest stars. It’s the perfect setting to wrap up four days of world class jazz under the stars in magical Ibiza.

In addition to these amazing shows, some of the performers will be giving “Master Classes” for local musicians at Can Ventosa on Saturday 18/10 from 12:00. These are open sessions where the musical masters share their wealth of knowledge about jazz and the art of performing at the highest level.
