Most people are happy if they can find one thing that they do well, and can make it into a career. Contrast that with a man like David Moss who has created several completely unrelated businesses that he manages simultaneously. In addition to the numerous publications of the Digital Grafic publishing company, he also plays an active role in Ibiza Music Agency, and handles the sales and installation of beautiful garden houses. David has made the most of his opportunities because he has not limited himself to what he has known and done before. How is he able to jump into a new business idea despite having little knowledge about that particular activity? The formula is simple: He quickly learns what he needs to know, and then applies his personal qualities of innovation, hard work, dependability and honesty.

David was born and raised in the New York City metropolitan area, and after graduating from the University of Colorado, he returned home and entered the family business. It was an established company that installed fire prevention sprinkler systems throughout New York. The business was founded and managed by his father, uncle and grandfather, so they were happy for young David to join his older brother in this family tradition. For the next five years he managed fire prevention installations in some of the city’s most iconic buildings, ranging from giant skyscrapers to trendy hot spots like Studio 54 and the Copa Cabana. He was 29 years old, making good money and living a true New York life, but something was missing. So in 1984 he made a life-changing decision.

To the great surprise of his family and friends David decided to move to Ibiza - an island that most New Yorkers had never heard of. And so began a great adventure that started with improving his fluency in Spanish, and trying to figure out how an American could do business in Spain. This was two years before Spain joined the EU, so even Europeans had limited working opportunities, let alone Americans. But David found a way to work legally, and his first venture was building warehouses on the road to the airport. After completing two phases, he realized that this was too similar to what he had left behind in New York, so David chalked that up to experience and moved on. 

The next opportunity that came his way was in Mallorca, where David and his partner started the first live action laser tag game in the Balearics. It was an interesting experience, but after three years he felt that Ibiza was calling him to come back. He once again jumped into a completely different type of business as the sales manager of a touristic guide called the ‘Ibiza Spotlight’. David quickly learned about publishing, and continued to develop his natural skill at marketing. Working with magazines was a great fit for him, so he partnered with a friend who had just started a guide for Ibiza home services, and together they created ‘La Guía de Ibiza’. 

When his partner needed to leave the island, David took control of the company, and it grew quickly under his leadership. In just four years he created four new magazines - all of which still exist today: ‘La Guía de Formentera’, ‘Isla Blanca Ibiza’, ‘IBICASA Magazine’ and ‘Ibiza Optimista’ (which is now incorporated within IBICASA). David used the success of these magazines to publish articles that support Ibiza and its people: artists, interesting residents, local charities and events. In 2015 he was inspired to go even deeper, and IBICASA began publishing Feature Articles, which shine light on important issues, both here and around the world. A few years ago David’s son Owen joined the company, and he has been instrumental in helping it to enter the digital age. For example, their popular website Ibicasa.com was expanded to allow people to advertise their properties for sale or rent directly to buyers. 

As his publishing business grew, so did David’s personal outlook on life. He became interested in meditation, health and well-being. This is reflected in the numerous articles on Conscious Living that have been published in IBICASA over the past 15 years, and the positive news that characterizes Ibiza Optimista. David was also an integral part of the transformational Ibiza Spirit Festivals from 2013 to 2020.

In 2014 David joined with Adam Lenox in the Ibiza Music Agency, which organizes live music and animation for events throughout the island. Once again, he was able to quickly grasp the essentials of a completely new business, and use his talents to make it grow. The Music Agency also spawned Jazz Point Ibiza, which brings international jazz greats here for a four day festival every year. In 2015 another opportunity arose as an old friend and client retired from his business of distributing garden houses. He felt that David was the best person to keep it going, and generously passed it on to him. No problem - David became an expert in the selling and installation of these houses. 

No portrait of David Moss can be complete without mentioning his wonderful wife Marion. She is not only the love of his life, but is also the one who keeps all of his businesses organized and running smoothly. Another important factor in David’s success is that he is a fabulous salesman. His style is the complete opposite of the typical high pressure sellers who will say anything to make a sale. David’s genius is that he truly believes in what he is selling. That is because he makes sure that whatever he has promised gets done to the best of his ability - with no excuses. His selling style is a perfect reflection of who he is in life: friendly, honest, responsible, dependable and good-hearted. Why is David “A Man for All Seasons”? Because in English this is defined as: “Someone who is adaptable to new circumstances, and remains true to his principles.” I couldn’t have said it better.
