3D printed homes

A revolutionary new construction method uses 3D printing and recycled materials to build small houses for less than €5,000 each. The first test of this system created a staggering 10 homes in just one day! This was achieved by the Chinese company WinSun which used four 10m x 6.6m printers to spray a mixture of cement and other construction materials that build the walls layer by layer. The final result is an impressive yet compact single storey house that could potentially be the answer to the country’s chronic lack of economical housing.

These 3D printers are able to produce a whole host of elaborate building and furnishing elements for the homes. As yet they are not sophisticated enough to make the roofs of the houses, so a team of workers are engaged to finish the project. However, the owner of WinSun projects that further development of the technology will include even the roofs, and could potentially lead to the production of multi-story buildings. He also stated that the company’s goal is to produce these incredibly cost effective houses as a way of “modernizing poor conditions in Chinese villages”.
