Ibiza Optimista

Vibra Hotels has organized a collaborative project to renovate a rundown shelter owned by the Caritas charity in Ibiza Town. The hotel chain had offered to help Caritas improve some of the facilities where they offer shelter to disadvantaged people. “When we saw this shelter, it seemed like a very necessary project that could contribute a lot to the island”. It is on the third floor of the Caritas office building, but it had been disused for years, and was completely uninhabitable in a very deteriorated state. Vibra’s plan was to reform and recondition the shelter using some of their own people to work in collaboration with more than 16 local companies offering various trades. In total, more than 40 workers have donated their time and talents to the project.

The work began in October with a comprehensive replacement of the electricity, gas and plumbing facilities, plus fire protection and carpentry. The total area of 365 m2 now includes five double bedrooms with showers, plus nine single bedrooms that use common bathrooms and showers. The hostal also has a reception area, dining room/common room and an administration office. The facilities are all completely new, including the carpentry of the closets, and a laundry room with three washing machines and a dryer. The collaborating companies worked overtime to finish the job before the Christmas holidays so that Caritas could begin to offer housing to people in need as soon as possible.
