2012 - The Awakening

This is an incredibly interesting time to be alive. Many prophecies, including those inspired by the ancient Mayan calendar, clearly point to the year 2012 as the beginning of a period of great change. You can feel the pull of this powerful transformative energy all around us as people awaken to the realization that the rhythm of the world we have inherited is not in harmony with the song that plays in our hearts. More and more of us are becoming aware that there must be a better way, and we are compelled to search for alternative ways of living. Yoga centers are appearing in every community; natural healing is accepted and practiced by millions; books and videos about meditation and spiritual growth are more popular than ever. This movement towards positive transformation is growing stronger each day, while at the same time our traditional systems of economy, ecology, government, and spirituality are proving to be outdated and unsustainable. This has created a situation in which two very different energies are competing for the soul of our planet. On one side we have the existing power structures of our society which are trying desperately to maintain their control by resisting change. On the other side we have this emerging wave of transformational energy that is urging us to evolve to a higher level of consciousness.
 



It is clear that the human race has reached a critical juncture – a Choice Point – and our future will be determined by which direction that we take.  But why now? Why are we faced with such a critical choice at this particular time in our history? Part of the answer to that question can be found by taking a closer look at the famous calendar that was produced thousands of years ago by the ancient Mayan culture of Central America. This document points to the date of December 21, 2012, as the “End of Times”, meaning that one long time period of 5,125 years has come to an end and a completely new one is about to begin. It is very interesting that the starting point of the Mayan calendar was 5,125 years ago, because that coincides with the beginning of human civilization in Sumeria and the Fertile Crescent. The calendar seems to be saying that humanity has completed one long stage of its development and is now ready to evolve to its next level. The modern sciences of astronomy and mathematics also provide evidence that we are at a very pivotal time in our history. They calculate that we are in the middle of what is called a Galactic Alignment which means that the planet Earth is precisely in line with both the Sun and the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. This is an incredibly rare event that happens only once every 25,800 years! 
 
It would appear that both the alignment of the Universe and the history of humanity are pointing to the fact that one great period in our existence on Earth has just finished and a completely new one is beginning. This is the energy of change that we feel all around us – it is the evolutionary impulse of our species urging us to take the next step in our development and move gracefully toward our highest potential. Taking that next step will require us to make a great shift in consciousness from the current worldview based on fear, lack and limitation to a new way of being that is grounded in love, abundance and freedom. Living at this higher state of awareness will create a society that values generosity over greed, cooperation over competition and fairness over injustice. That sounds like Heaven on Earth, so what can we do to help move humanity in this new direction? The only way to change the consciousness of this planet is to change the consciousness of its people, and that starts with you and me. So the most important thing that each one of us can do to contribute to the transformation of our world is to go within to transform ourselves. This is the journey of personal transformation which starts by remembering that you are much greater than what your conditioning has programmed you to be. In search of that higher self you go within to discover the beauty and wisdom that is your true authentic nature. The next step is to consciously bring that inner light into the world through your thoughts, your words, your actions and your very presence. This will make your personal life more wonderful in every way, but how will it contribute to the evolution of our world? 

 
 


 
I want you to imagine a beautiful pond with perfectly still water. If you throw a stone into that water it will create gentle waves that radiate outward in every direction – we call these ripples on a pond. As you awaken to your true self and bring that beautiful presence into the world, you will create ripples on the pond of life. The glow of your inner light will touch everyone you come into contact with … at home, at work, or just walking down the street. Each of those people whom you have touched will then spread that light to others… and others… and on, and on, and on… like ripples on a pond. That is how you change the world – by becoming a living demonstration of your finest qualities and a beacon for others to follow. This is the great opportunity that is being presented to us in these exciting times, and when a critical mass of humanity has awakened to their authentic nature of love, kindness and cooperation then we will finally realize the true evolutionary path of our species which is to create life on Earth to be a shining reflection of our highest good.
