Glass recycling is a simple and effective way to make a beneficial contribution to preserving our environment. A glass bottle that is sent to a landfill can take up to a million years (!) to break down. By contrast, it takes as little as 30 days after leaving your home, for a recycled bottle to appear on a store shelf as part of a new glass container. According to industry estimates, about 80% of all recycled glass eventually ends up in new glass containers. On top of that, glass containers are 100% recyclable, which means they can be recycled repeatedly, again and again, with no loss of quality in the glass.

Recycling glass also saves energy and conserves natural resources. New glass is made by heating sand and other substances to a temperature of 1,400 degrees Celsius, which requires a lot of energy. The first step in recycling glass is to crush it into small pieces before melting it. This uses 40% less energy than making new glass, because the crushed glass melts at a much lower temperature. In addition, every 1,000 kg of glass that is recycled saves more than 1,000 kg of the raw materials needed to create new glass: sand, soda ash, and limestone. Knowing all of these facts should help you to feel really good when we take your glass containers to the recycling point.
